Congratulations Mrs. Tammy Mateljan, 2021 ArchOmaha Elementary Educator of the Year

Educator of the Year—Elementary

Tammy Mateljan, Fourth Grade Teacher, St. Cecilia School, Omaha

Tammy Mateljan is known as a selfless leader who greets her students with a smile in the morning and sends them home with a hug in the afternoon. She is consistently one of the first teachers in the school to embrace new techniques and strategies in her classroom and mentors other teachers in what she’s learned.

As a graduate of St. Cecilia Grade School and Cathedral High School herself, Tammy’s commitment to the school and parish run deeps. She always steps up whenever and however needed. She is also a cantor, a choir member and EMHC during school and weekend Masses.

Over the years she has been the co-director of the school’s annual Operetta, a musical where she leads students through auditions, practices, and live performances. “It is such a rewarding and exciting time for the kids, but also for me. Watching their hard work come to fruition is priceless,” said Tammy.

“Throughout my teaching career, I have always tried to be a loving and positive role model for my students. I want them to know they are “my kids” and that my classroom is a safe and accepting place.”

Tammy has been at St. Cecilia for all of her 24 years of teaching. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She and her husband, Jason, have three children: Sarah, Anthony and Emma. She enjoys spending time with her large extended family. She is an avid reader as well as an animal lover and has rescued and adopted several dogs and cats, and volunteers her time with Hearts United for Animals.
