Principal Duties and Responsibilities


The Director of Buildings & Maintenance develops, implements, manages, and maintains the services to facilitate the maintenance, repairs and alterations of Duchesne’s buildings and grounds. This hands-on role oversees the design, planning and developing of facilities and new construction, and directing maintenance department operations including planning, staffing, budgeting and complying with established requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

• Models the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria and sets the standard for honest, open, professional communication with all groups on campus;
• Prioritizes safety and quality, and trains staff on safe and effective use of tools and equipment as well as safe procedures to accomplish tasks;
• Has the necessary skills to work with members of the maintenance team to complete department related responsibilities;
• Make repairs on any part of the building, grounds or equipment;
• Manages all members of the maintenance staff by setting clear expectations and ensuring everyone has the materials or equipment needed to accomplish the work assigned;
• Holds weekly meetings to keep staff informed, elicit suggestions and respond to complaints;
• Establishes or maintains daily, weekly, monthly and annual routines which will keep the buildings and grounds in good condition (lawn/landscaping care and snow removal);
• Supervises the inspection and maintenance of the HVAC systems;
• Working knowledge of digital HVAC building controls;
• Develops and implements an ongoing preventative maintenance program;
• Approves the distribution of keys and key fobs and maintains a record of the distribution
• Sets schedules for special projects and oversees them;
• Serves as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, providing information for the meetings and working closely with consultants, contractors, and/or subcontractors (architects, landscape designers, engineers, etc.) during the proposed renovations;

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Physical Responsibilities:

• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
• Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights
• Must be able to carry loads up to 50 lbs;
• Must be able to work on a ladder; and

Other Requirements:

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have 7+ years of experience in maintenance roles


• Will be exposed to dusty work conditions weekly;
• Will be exposed to strong chemicals monthly; and
• Will be exposed to hot working conditions seasonally.

Education and Experience
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with maintenance in 100+ year old building
• HVAC servicing
