POSITION TITLE: Substitute Music Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Music in Catholic Schools
REPORTS TO: Coordinator, Music in Catholic Schools

POSITION STATUS: Part-Time, Temporary

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides instrumental music teaching on an as-needed basis for schools participating in Music in Catholic Schools (MCS), Archdiocese of Omaha.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach instrumental music, using sound and effective educational methods when the regular MCS teacher is unable to teach
• Implement MCS curriculum
• Maintain student progress and attendance records
• Supervise students during MCS events, activities, and class time
• Identify educational needs of students and attend to those specific needs with individualized teaching strategies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of traditional and modern theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of music
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and teaching design, instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of teaching effects
• Selecting and using instructional methods and procedures appropriate for specific situations
• Monitoring and assessing of self and student performance to make improvements
• Motivating, encouraging, and directing others toward educational goals
• Ability to explain musical concepts in multiple ways and using multiple methods
• Ability to arrange things in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., musical scores)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Instrumental Music emphasis
• Nebraska Teaching Certificate, endorsement in music

TRAVEL: 5% from school to school as teaching schedule dictates.

HOURS OF WORK: The Substitute will be expected to teach students throughout the school day for each day they are assigned to work.
