New High School Tuition Assistance Initiative: Archbishop Scholars

Catholic high schools nationwide as well as in the Archdiocese of Omaha, have a 99 percent graduation rate. A large majority, nearly 100 percent, of Catholic high school graduates also go on to enroll in colleges, universities or other post-secondary institutions.

During their time in our Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic high schools, data shoes students consistently outperform their local and national peers on standardized tests.

Beyond the academic success, a Catholic education helps instill a relationship with Christ, the foundation from which students excel in academics and in service to others.  We want more families who desire this experience for their children to get that opportunity.

Enter the Archbishop Scholar program.

This is year two for this initiative, which is funded by dollars raised at the annual Archbishop’s Dinner for Education.  Archbishop Scholar recipients are selected from students who receive Children’s Scholarship Fund dollars to attend a K-8 Catholic school, assisting in removing the financial barrier often associated with moving on to a Catholic high school.

A total of $356,000 was raised in year one, to cover one-third of the cost of tuition over four years, for 25 students currently enrolled in one of these high schools:

  • Gross Catholic
  • Roncalli Catholic
  • Creighton Prep
  • Duchesne
  • Marian
  • Mercy
  • Pope John XXIII – Elgin
  • Scotus Central Catholic -Columbus
  • St. Francis -Humphrey
  • St. Mary-O’Neill

Thanks to the generosity of our community at the 2022 Dinner for Education, there will now be 56 Archbishop Scholars in total at our Catholic high schools starting next Fall!

Read the thank you notes below to see the impact of these dollars:

I am a recipient of one of the $4000, four-year renewable scholarships to attend a catholic high school, totaling $16,000 in tuition assistance . On behalf of my parents, and myself, I want to thank everybody for helping make it possible for me to pursue my dream of attending a catholic high school.

Your contribution to my education is so important and will allow me to continue to focus on my studies. Financially,  this is a big concern for my parents, who were stressed over my upcoming tuition amount without scholarship assistance.

I am truly grateful for the Archbishop Scholar scholarship. Thank you for your support.

From a parent:

Good Morning!! WOW!! What an amazing email to wake up to!!

This is such a wonderful gift.

Our son was excited to hear about this as well!

I am not sure that he realizes how truly special and helpful this is, but as parents of eight children, we are extremely blessed with this generosity!  We have talked about how we will make it all work with various tuitions and everyday happenings of life.  God has a way of making great things happen to ease the load.

This is one great example. Thank you so much!!
